You would certainly not like to have programs recorded with all the commercials and other stuff that is of no worth to you. You might also wish to remove everything of this sort to save the recorded video for your collection. You need to follow some of the technical steps in order to get rid of the commercials and other unwanted parts from the recording.
The very first of the limitation is that DVR-MS files are in two formats: one of them is the read only format that cannot be edited in any way and the other one is the version that you can edit but editing a video that is high quality and huge in terms of size on disk and actual size is a big issue. The first of the suggestion would be to look for a DVR-MS to WMV converter for easy process.
Once you are done with the conversion as well, you can easily edit the video in the Windows Movie Maker.
Editing:
1. Open Window Movie Maker at the first place. You can go to the start menu and search for Movie Maker in the search box. The search box would give you a link to the application. Start Windows Movie Maker.

2. On the left pane, you will see Import and beneath that Videos. Locate the WMV converted video of your DVR-MS file on your hard disk drive.
